WHY CHOOSE MICHAEL ROUD PHOTOGRAPHY:
Photographers in Los Angeles are everywhere and by now you have most likely looked at many Los Angeles photographer’s websites and even had photogrpahy studio recommendations from friends who had their actor headshots taken. You may be overwhelmed as to how to decide which professional photographer in Los Angeles will meet your needs, fit your budget, and, most importantly, care about you and your professional goals.

At Michael Roud Photography you will find a collaborative working environment and that your dreams and aspirations are taken seriously. In working with our studio you will be part of a carefully designed system of shooting which has been formulated through experience, speaking with agents and casting directors, and a passion for the work. Michael’s experience as a Director helps him direct and motivate each client to get the best pictures possible. Whether its an actor headshot, modeling photography for a comp card, or advertising photography campaign, we work in a fun, collaboratie environment which yields phenomenal results.

PREPARING FOR YOUR PHOTO SESSION:
If you are seeking actor headshots, modeling photography, or an advertising photographer, it is important to consider how you or your product should be marketed. We often find this has not been considered as seriously or realistically as it should. Our studio provides a thorough consultation to help identify you or your product's unique marketability. If you are a headshot or modeling photography client we will consider your age range, roles you are being submitted for or want to be submitted for and your need for commercial and/or theatrical headshots and portfolios. If you are represented, we will discuss what your agent prefers and feels you need.

We highly encourage you to view our video so that you may have clear understanding of our unique process. If your browser is slow please view our video on youtube.com.

You will see that our shoots are not “cookie cutter” using a “one size fits all” system. Sure that would be easier but each photo-session is specifically tailored to meet your needs. As you watch the video you will see how each shoot was designed to meet the varying needs and styles of the actor, actress, and headshots, model, and music artist. You are an individual bringing your own unique look and talents to the industry and we want to capture that in your photos.

LOOKS:
Our various packages are done by Looks. For instance, if you choose the Three Look Package, we will shoot you in three different clothing styles, three changes of makeup/hair, three different settings/backgrounds, with three different unique lighting schemes. One Look may be your Commercial Look. The makeup and hair may be light and natural while wearing a soft or flattering color. Michael will select a setting or background and specific lighting scheme which fits this look. The next Look may be a Theatrical Look, will vary completely, with different clothing, change of makeup and hair, and lighting. It is important to us that leave with truly distinct and marketable looks so that you can effectively submit for the various roles which suit your age range and skill-set.

CLOTHING SELECTION:
At Michael Roud Photography the clothing change is more than simply a change of color or neckline. We believe that what you wear affects your stance, mood, comfort level, and the attitude you’ll bring to the camera.

Please consider the following:

• Solid colors often are best. Avoid large prints and patterns and extremely bright colors.

• Bring varying necklines; collars, v-neck, crew necks, tank tops, etc. and various sleeve lengths to add variety to your Looks.

• Consider your skin tone when selecting the colors of your garments. Some people tend to look good in pastels, while others in muted neutrals, etc.

• Most people want to enhance and bring focus to their eyes. Blue eyes may be enhanced by a green, brown, or grey shirt, while green eyes may with earthy tones or muted blues and grays. Brown and hazel eyes tend to have a wider range of colors that enhance them.

• Clothes must fit well, be clean, and free of wrinkles.

• Layers with various textures like jackets, vests, scarves, etc. can add interest.

• Keep accessories like jewelry, watches, wristbands, hair ornaments, etc. to a minimum.

• Upon careful consideration of the bullet points above, bring plenty of clothing options so that we can help you make the final clothing selections that suit each of your Looks.

MAKEUP AND HAIR:
Why professional makeup and hair? Michael’s makeup artist has worked with him enough to know about his camera settings and lighting techniques to apply the makeup accordingly. She also has many years of experience and knows much about the effects of lighting, natural or studio, on the skin and the pigments used in most cosmetics. Makeup is highly recommended for males as well, to ensure even skin tone, conceal imperfections, and to enhance the overall look without having the actual cosmetic product appear noticeable. She also has created techniques she uses specific to headshots that help make your eyes stand out and diminish imperfections that cameras seem to pick up all too easily.

To prepare for your shoot:

• Arrive with clean skin lightly moisturized. If you wear makeup you should remove it the night before and follow your normal cleansing routine. We strongly suggest you do not experiment with new skincare products or facials close to the day of your shoot. Consult with your Esthetician if you plan to get a facial or want to treat your skin with any particular product or procedure.

• Arrive with clean and styled hair as you would for an audition so that your hair can be made ready for the camera with style changes and touchups, such as curling, flat-ironing, or pulling back, for each of your given looks.

THE PHOTO SESSION:
Please arrive on time, no earlier as we may be finishing with another client. There is a metered lot at the side of the building or street parking.

We encourage your questions and input as we begin to design your shoot. We strive to keep a relaxed but professional environment and will create a fully collaborative working environment. Michael’s directing and film making experience allows him to work with you as an actor. He directs each client and will put them at ease as we discover your strengths and weaknesses and keep within your comfort level.

Michael’s makeup artist and hairstylist has experience with magazine fashion shoots and modeling portfolios and helps coach each client in movement, camera presence, body positioning and posture so that everyone looks their best while she stays on set throughout your shoot.
We will then flow from Look to Look until we have completed the shoot. There is no time limit per say as Michael will shoot as needed for each client until he feels the goals of the shoot are met.

AFTER THE PHOTO SESSION:
After the session you will receive a disc with all of the images upon payment in full. You have full rights to use your pictures for print and promotional purposes as you desire. We offer a viewing for a small fee where we’ll closely analyze the pictures look to look and side-by side to choose the best and most useful pictures that will get you called in. Often the agents that we work for have come to rely on this service. Often the agents that we work for have come to rely on this service.

Many castings are now done via the internet and casting directors are viewing thumbnail sized photos and so it is much more than a pretty face that catches their eye. The goal of the viewing is to help you select pictures that casting directors and agents will respond to based on our experience within the industry and the ongoing feedback we receive from agents and casting directors.

RE-TOUCHING:
In all honesty and with pride we can say that very few of our images need retouching. This is the result of our unique lighting techniques and makeup. The vast majority of our photos are ready for print and submission with little need of Photoshop.

The exceptions to this may be the desire for extra correction to such elements as red eyes, raised or textured blemishes, stray hairs, or to soften facial lines. Michael does all of his own re-touching for a competitive price and does so in the most conservative yet precise manner that truly only enhances your look rather than to create a falsified image of you.

Please remember to discuss your interest in the viewing and/or re-touching services when you schedule your appointment so all costs can be considered and calculated. We do not want you to feel you are being up-sold or that there are hidden costs you were unaware of.
